Maui had always been the first choice amongst the Hawaiian islands for resort lovers and honeymooners alike, for generations. When I booked the flight tickets (for a steal) to Maui, little did I know that ONLY the flight tickets would be affordable on this island 😀 Every turn you take on the windy roads lined with equidistant Palm/Coconut trees, you can spot perfectly manicured lawns with impeccable landscaping accompanied by a “Welcome to XYZ resort” sign! Since I’m what you call the “opposite” of a resort person, let’s get into my jam-packed Maui itinerary for the adventure loving ones out there.
When I was deep into the rabbit hole of trying to find things to do in Maui, I was pleasantly surprised that I was spoilt with options. Apart from the gorgeous beaches and tantalizing sunsets, these were my favorite things about the island –
- You can learn to surf in Lahaina beach which was SO MUCH FUN! The beach is super shallow for a good 300 yards, which means after catching a wave, you don’t actually have to paddle against the current. You can simply walk into the water holding your surf board and get on it to catch your next wave. Can it get better than this?? I’ll never forget the feeling of catching the first wave, it was exhilarating!
- You can Rappel down a waterfall in road to Hana. I would say this was fun too, but honestly I was TERRIFIED while doing it and was completely convinced I was going to die there haha. But hey I didn’t, so now in hindsight I can vouch for it 😀
- Ever wanted to jump off a cliff? Black rock is the perfect place (even for noobs like me) to try that out! You can snorkel there with turtles and climb onto to the rock for a change of scenery and jump off the cliff and repeat this all day long without getting bored!
- Everyone knows how amazing sunrise at Haleakala is. But did you know you can bike down the entire mountain after watching the sunrise? It takes about 2.5 hours to get to the base and it’s all downhill! The smell of eucalyptus filling your lungs while you glide down the road gawking at the unreal shoreline as you descend, ah! Definitely one of the best things I’ve ever done!
- Snorkeling at Molokini came up as one of the top things to do in Maui. However, it was honestly underwhelming. The water was super choppy even though we caught the first boat out in the morning. So I wouldn’t keep my hopes up for this one
- There are a lot of beaches/bays which you can access by foot and snorkel there. We did one of those – Honolua Bay which is a short hike through the forest that opens up to a beautiful bay. I highly recommend this spot for snorkeling, it had a lot of colorful tropical fish.
Other than these things, there are a bunch of nice beaches where you can hang out and spend an entire day if that’s your thing. We mostly went to the Kaanapali beach near the black rock every chance we got. They do a small torch lighting ceremony on the rock every evening which was a sight!
Ok done with all the words, now for the pictures 🙂

Waterfalls galore in Road to Hana!

Picture perfect beaches with every sand color imaginable!

Sunset for daysss

I’d love to go back to this island one day and do all the things over again because it was THAT good!
Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time,
Mal
